VicHealth is offering the Active Participation Grants - Metropolitan Round to:
- increase participation in community sport and active recreation, particularly for people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic, Indigenous and new arrival communities.
- demonstrate the social, physical and mental heath benefits of physical activity participation.
- prioritise interventions aimed at getting inactive or partially active people doing sufficient physical activity for health gain.
One of the main aims of VicHealth’s Active Participation Grants is to support initiatives that address health inequalities. This will be done by supporting initiatives that:
- address the social, economic and physical barriers to participation faced by groups particularly affected by health inequalities
- have an impact at local and regional levels and encourage participation in a range of areas
- are based in relatively disadvantaged socioeconomic areas;
- work with people and organisations from other sectors to respond to the needs of the most disadvantaged;
- are targeted to people of different ages;
- ensure groups particularly affected by health inequalities are actively involved in decision-making.
The following Local government Authorities (LGAs) have been recognised as the most disadvantaged compared to the rest of Victoria, based on their level of relative disadvantage (ABS 2006 Census) and their levels of high population growth. These areas include:
- Brimbank City Council
