Under the Club's constitution, Membership Clause, section 5:
"The Club may nominate or appoint at the Annual General Meeting up to a maximum of two (2) Club patrons, who shall have the right to attend all meetings of the Club and speak on any matter, but may not at any time vote in their capacity as Club patron."
Percy, who succeeds Jimmy Stubbs, was the first player to be registered with the Broadbeach Cats. Story is that he was hunting in packs on the Gold Coast and heard a 4GG ad for footballers as he was filling up at the local Caltex service station which was owned by none other than the aforementioned Jimmy Stubbs. Percy and a couple of mates responded immediately. Pictured is the first team fielded as the Broadbeach Cats in 1971. Percy is in there somewhere as a result of the largesse of the South Melbourne Districts FC which, as can be seen in the letter extract, thought the world of Percy (Bernie) in providing their release. Percy played a total of 231 games, the last in season 1985 after hanging up the boots in 1983 at 230 games. We believe he was the club's first centurion in 1976. Perc looks like a backman and did play most of his career down back but does claim to have bagged a Baker's dozen sausage rolls in a game back when backmen played behind with a fist permanently clenched and teeth were left in the change rooms.
Congratulations Percy
