Two of the club's favourite ladies are on the way to recovery after serious health scares in recent months. Fiona Gibbs is in remission after being diagnosed with leukemia in late October. Fiona, daughter of Cougar legend, Peter Steele, and wife, Judy, will undergo her third and final dose of chemotherapy at Box Hill Hospital in the New Year. Our thoughts are with husband, Rodney, and their children, Bowdie, Tahla and Mitchell.
Steely is still hosting the music programme, "This Great Country", every month on Saturdays (10 am to 1 pm) on the Inverloch community radio station, 88.1 3M-FM.
Karen Rickard, meanwhile, has finished chemotherapy but awaits surgery for breast cancer. The signs are good, however, for the popular wife of former Cougars best & fairest and coach, Glenn. Son, Dylan, is captain of Montrose where a team-mate is brother, Sam. our thoughts and best wishes to the entire Rickard family which includes another son, Jarrad.
Thinking also of Mandy Harvey, wife of former Cougar best & fairest, Mal, who is having treatment for a faulty heart valve.
Better news for recently retired player and club president-elect, Steve Hancock. "Hanger" married Torrie, daughter of current president, Ron Comben, on November 16, and the happy couple enjoyed a three-week honeymoon in Vietnam.
