After a comprehensive defeat of Cuprona with the high score of 31. 16 (202) despite the difficult conditions brought by rough weather, Yeoman now travel to Yolla for the biggest challenge of the season so far.
The Demons are undefeated in six matches and sit on top of the ladder, a game clear of the Robins. Home ground advantage is a factor too, although nearly all of Yeoman’s players have been to the Yolla oval before and know of its peculiarities.
Unfortunately, some serious injuries have hit at this crucial time. Better than later in the season, I suppose. Tom Chilcott did a hammy last Saturday and will be sidelined for some time. The Reserves game saw an even worse bit of bad luck, with Scott Crowden breaking a leg, ruling him out for up to 12 months. We wish Scott all the best in his recovery and hope to see him back at the Club soon.
The good news is that Marcus Gee, Trent Neilson-Lane, Jackson James and Daniel Fraser-Heazlewood are available again. Marcus will return to the back half while Trent, or “Punchy” as he is better known, will be invaluable around the ball and up forward. Jackson will have a big role to play at full-back and Daniel is likely to spend most of his time across half-forward.
It was good to see another young player in Colby Chilcott performing well last Saturday, showing the benefit of growing confidence and earning the confidence of his teammates.
The Reserves also have a big task when they try for a third win in a row. The way they have finished matches off recently should see them at least competitive throughout.
All the members of the Wynwood clan will not be making the trip uphill on Saturday. They have another engagement - it’s Kyron’s wedding day. The Yeoman Football Club wishes the happy couple all the best for their special day.
We look forward many of the Yeoman Football Club faithful at Yolla today for what is anticipated to bd two very good games of football.
Reserves start 12:00
Seniors start 2:00pm
