This week the Yeoman Football Club welcomes the Queenstown Crows to the home of the Robins for another stern test.
The Robins will be out to get back on the winners’ list after falling to South Burnie last week while the Crows hope to continue the form that brought them a big win over Cuprona.
The Robins’ defence stood up again last week, restricting South’s forwards to 10 goals, with only one in the second half. Shane Lockhart returns, having been a late withdrawal for Covid protocols, while Brock Bucknell has made a fast recovery from injury. Sam Saward moves to a back flank, because Bob Wynwood has copped a double whammy – work and a hand injury.
Another player badly missed last week, ruckman Jackson Daniels, also returns and will help the likes of Cam Upton, Lewis Mitchell and Dan Ellery to win the centre clearances. With Alex Baldock and Trent Nielson-Lane manning the wings, the forwards should get plenty of opportunities.
Straight kicking has been a problem in a couple of games (4.12 didn’t help last Saturday) so key forwards, Peter Fulton and Tom Chilcott, will be keen to do their bit to rectify matters. Deeper penetration and closer shots would be welcome. Given that the Crows are the reigning premiers, and that Wivenhoe holds no fears for them, the Robins will need to make the most of their chances.
The Reserves also come up against the reigning premiers. They will be boosted by a couple of new men and the fact that more players hit the training track this week should ensure they do not leave too much to too few.
You will notice that the players from the Yeoman Football Club will sporting black arm bands in today’s game in a sign of respect to club member Scott Crowden on the passing of his mother Mary-Rose Crowden who passed away late last week at 62 years of age – she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Get down to the Wivenhoe Football Ground tomorrow as both games loom to be crowd-pleaser and deserves a big audience.
