The City of Banyule ran its "Mannagum Festival" last Saturday from Poulter Reserve behind Greensborough railway station.
A "community and family spirited" event, the Festival included lots stalls exhibiting crafts, foods, terrific dog trials providing some exciting races against the clock and of course other dogs as well the stage providing musical entertainment all afternoon. The event was finished with Daryl Braithwaite in concert....lotsa fun, a few drinks, a bit to eat and great music.
...and...Watsonia Football Club was involved too. A handball competition for juniors ran for the 4 hours of the event giving away forty Auskick Backpacks and six Sherrin Junior Footballs....it was great to see the expression on the kids faces when they won !!!
The AFL 2008 Auskick backpacks were supplied courtesy of AFL Victoria with thanks to Michael Stinear and Daryl Collings. The Sherrin footys were supplied by Phiv Demitriou and Ash Brown from the Northern Football League - thank you very much.
The expression "fabric of the club" was exemplified on Saturday with the efforts Watsonia's Jess O'Connor, Steve Lehman, Mick Bartlett and Eldon Abbott...."Mouse", El and Steve helping with the handball and Jess recording information for the prize winners - congratulations and thanks again.
If you are a "junior" reading this and thinking of playing sport for fun and friendship - contact any of the Watsonia club officials. If you know of somebody who would like to play, let them know too !!!
