Our second last home matches for 2021 took place last Saturday, with a clean sweep in the football and wins to D and E Grade on the netball court.
The Unders returned to the winners list for the first time in a while with a 56 point win in the early game. Ethan Howlett led the way in the ruck with his best game in Bloods colours, while the intercept king Conrad Farrugia also had a day out, as did Aiden Ficheroux who gave us a big body and some toughness around the contest. Jobbo kicked another six up forward to take the lead in the league goalkicking.
The reserves had a 14 point win with Pig and Aaron Speak kicking three goals each, while Justin Newton continued his excellent form this year with a best on ground performance.
The seniors had the same margin as the Unders – 56 points – with the exact same scores 97 to 41! Klixy grabbed best on ground honours with four goals (must be all that time he spends on the trainers table pre-game) with young Mawson making another good contribution along with our gun ruck Benny Archard and midfield ace Jack Walker. Lachie Phillips kicked his first goal as a Bloods player.
D and E Grades had success on the netball courts and have pushed themselves into good spots on the ladder (D are third and E are second).
Amended Schedule
Our seniors and reserves have a bye on July 24 – but the U19s are playing that weekend against Ballarat at Melton Rec Reserve (South’s ground) at the usual time. On July 31 we play our final home game for 2021 against Darley.
TAC Road Safety Message
This weekend we take part in TAC Road Safety Round, and we do our bit to share the road safety message. Our players will all wear a blue armband on the field and you will see road safety messages around our clubrooms and on social media this week. If you’re drinking at the footy, handball the driving to someone who isn’t.
Women’s Football
The girls are at home this weekend (Sunday 18 July) against Redan with a 3pm game. Last week they went down to Carisbrook at home by 19 points. Ash Wallis kicked two goals for the Bloods, while Amy Hibbert was named our best on ground.
Social Calendar
On Saturday 31 July we will be holding our $5k draw – see Ray Newman for tickets. Presentation Night will be held on Thursday 23 September (Grand Final Eve Public Holiday).
Thursday Meals
Join us at Maccy Park on a Thursday night from 7pm for $12 meals. Hear the teams first around 8.30pm.
