Thoughts on the result on the weekend
This was a big game for us after losing to the top side Riddell last week. We knew that if we played to our strengths the game was going to be competitive. It’s certainly the best game we’ve had all season, with four consistent quarters and everyone playing strongly. The team was pumped with the win!
Key moment that stood out for you in the game
Our key focus was on consistent defensive pressure all the way down the court, something that we struggled with in the Riddell game. At training last week we worked on how the team can work together to slow the ball movement down and create turnover opportunities. On a number of occasions, we were rewarded for our efforts in defence against Wallan, which we then capitalised on in attack.
Key players that impressed and why
I felt everyone played a solid game last week and this contributed in the team’s win. Brittany Bowen played her best game of the season with her steady presence in attack and strong pressure in defense. Meg Grbac continues to be a dominant ring defender, closing down the opponent goaler and taking a number of intercepts. I also felt the goalers were strong this week too, and Laura and Dee are pairing up well together.
What are you looking for the group to improve on
We’ll continue to focus on communication and defense pressure down the court, as well as ensuring strong leads and options moving into attack. I could see our legs were getting tired in the last half and we’ll need to continue to build on this if we want to be competitive throughout the season.
Thoughts ahead of this weekend's match
To continue to keep our finals hopes alive this is an important game for us. It’s the first time playing the full cohort of Macedon players this season so we’re looking forward to a competitive game. If we continue to play like we did against Wallan, we know we’ve got it in us to win!
