Footy and netball returned for most of the club last weekend after a five week break, but there wasn’t much joy had at Mars Stadium for the Bloods.
On the footy field the Unders kicked off the day with a 7 point loss. Melton’s resident DJ Jimmy Roberts enjoyed roaming the midfield in the morning game for the first time this year, while Jobbo jumped in with five goals, Evan continued his strong start to the year, Ethan was excellent (but again left his shorts and boots behind after a game) and it would be remiss of us not to mention the return of Captain Monitto and the bull Sygidus. The boys are overdue for a win and hopefully they’ll be able to register their third victory of the season soon.
The reserves had a day to forget. Enough said.
In the seniors, we were slow out of the blocks, trailing by 22 points at the first break.
Despite a gallant comeback in the third term, with a 5 goal to 1 quarter, North Ballarat put the foot down again in the last and got over the line by 20 points and cemented the top spot on the ladder. We’ll be better for the run after our first hit out in over a month. Jack Walker had another good day at the office, supported by his brother Lachlan, Cottsy, Arch and Liam Carter who all featured among our best.
Our netballers had a couple of draws in C and E grade, and went down in the remaining matches.
We would like to thank Leon Jones and the North Ballarat FNC for their support of the ‘Do It For Dyson’ fundraiser with a donation made on behalf of North Ballarat FNC after the match.
Amended Schedule
The BFNL have made some modifications to the fixture, with two games being removed and the season now consisting of 14 games over 16 rounds.
After Ballarat this week, we have July 10 vs Lake Wendouree (home) and July 17 vs Bacchus Marsh (away). Our next bye is on July 24. Our social calendar will be revised in the next week or so and published once finalised.
Ladies Day
Our ladies day function takes place next Saturday, July 10 when we play Lake Wendouree at home. Tickets are $40 and need to be pre-booked via the link on our social pages/website, or see Morgan around the clubrooms.
Do It For Dyson
A Sportsmans Day fundraiser is taking place on Sunday July 18 at the Deer Park Club with some big name special guests. Tickets are $350 - see Tymmsy if you would like to secure a ticket. With COVID restrictions in place, there are limited spots available.
COVID Restrictions
As far as game day is concerned, please remember that change rooms are off limits to anybody other than the players and officials involved in that particular match. We thank the majority of our members who are doing the right thing, but unfortunately there’s still a handful of people who think they’re exempt from these rules. Also, if you are unwell or showing symptoms of cold/flu you must stay at home, and all attendees must sign in using the QR code on display at the ground.
