BLOODS BANTER: Lockdown Weekend
Here we are in Lockdown again. Hopefully for just a week. The Bloods were to have the weekend off anyway, but now the entire competition joins us for a break in the 2021 season.
The Seniors bounced back last weekend with a win over Redan. Aided by some brilliance from Kighty up forward with five goals and the ever reliable sparky Jack Walker in the midfield, the Bloods ran away 58 point winners. The Carter boys were handy as well with four goals each, while Benny Archard got through his first game of 2021 after missing over a month with a hamstring injury. Alex Robinson made his senior debut and we hope it’s the first of many senior games for Alex at the Bloods.
Dimma’s lads got to belt the song out after the match once again with a 54 point win. Aaron Speak played his first game with the club and kicked 4 goals, Jake ‘Pig’ Buttigieg booted 3 goals despite carrying a blown up ankle and Truck returned from injury with a couple of goals. Boof Hibbert was named best on and has been a super 'recruit' since deciding to pull the boots on again in Round 2.
In the morning game, the ice had hardly melted on the MacPherson Park turf when the Under 19s turned up and started playing their dreadful pre-game music. With a few players out through injury, the boys went down by 28 points. Benn Tyson was named best on for the Bloods and generated some good contests and passages of play for us, while Conrad’s reading of the play and aerial work also had him in our better players. Laughie, Macca, Jed and Borgy rounded out our best players on the day. Jobbo booted three and there is no doubt he will claim one of them as goal of the year.
On the netball courts, A grade had a win 53 to 45. D Grade and E Grade joined them in the winners list with both teams having strong starts to the season. Our women's footy team played at home against Sebastopol and were beaten by 70 points.
Our Punting Competition is on every Saturday. $20 to enter. Visit meltonfnc.funters.com.au to enter your tips. For those not familiar with the competition, you select one horse in each race at the main Melbourne race meeting (this week Caulfield) and the punter with the highest collect at the end based on a hypothetical $1 each way bet on each selection will win our first prize. It’s a bit of fun and a great fundraiser for the club, so if you are looking for something to do tomorrow, please jump in and lodge your tips. It’s open from 11am on a Friday – and you can always change your tips prior to Race 1 on Saturday.
The Toyota Good for Footy raffle is on again in 2021, with three cars and some other great prizes up for grabs. Tickets are $5 each, and can be purchased online at the link https://toyotagoodforfooty.raffletix.com.au/meltonfnc?v=1
Unfortunately the Western Jets match at Maccy Park that was scheduled for this weekend won’t go ahead. Hopefully we get a chance to host them again some stage later in the year. Our Trivia Night that was scheduled for this Saturday night has also fallen victim to the COVID Lockdown.
When we return to MacPherson Park we are likely to be following some modified COVID restrictions for training and playing. As far as game day is concerned, please remember that change rooms are off limits to anybody other than the players and officials involved in that particular match, and if you are unwell or showing symptoms of cold/flu you must stay at home. All attendees must also sign in using our QR code on display at the ground.
All being well, the Bloods will spend a Saturday afternoon in Ballarat for the first time on Saturday June 5 against North Ballarat and Saturday June 19 against Lakers. Keep an eye on our news pages as we may do a club dinner in Ballarat after one of those games. Our next home game is Saturday June 26 against the Marsh, with our Ladies Day Function in the afternoon, followed by ‘Mr Melton’ that night. There’s a few boys talking themselves up already for the inaugural Mr Melton title. Who will it be?
Check our website - meltonfnc.com.au for all the info you need about what’s happening at the club and remember to like our pages on social media where we will provide regular updates and content during the current lockdown.
That’s all for this week, on behalf of the committee – please stay safe and we look forward to be being back together soon. GO BLOODS!
