New player uniform try-on (U10's and U12's)

With 75 Aussie Hoopers eligible to transition to competitive basketball in the Summer season, we are holding a uniform try-on day on Sunday 20 June at 4 pm. This is for any child born between 2011 and 2015 looking to play for Sharks in competitive basketball for the first time.

What is u10s?

Sharks basketball club competes in the Geelong United Basketball League against other member clubs. In the summer season children born in 2013, 2014, and 2015 will be eligible to play u10’s. The u10 competition has modified rules and lowered rings to ease children into competition basketball. The games are on Saturday mornings/early afternoon and training is directly after Aussie Hoops on Sundays. The summer season starts on the 9th of October (Term 4) and concludes on the 2nd of April (end of Term 1) breaking for school holidays.

Can my child continue to do Aussie Hoops?

Yes, your child can continue with Aussie Hoops.

It seems like a big jump - how will I know if my child is ready?

In preparation for transitioning most Aussie Hoopers to competition basketball, we will be running a transition program in term 3, Aussie Hoop All-Stars. Aussie Hoop All-Stars will include both skills (what we are doing now) as well as full-court games. Confidence more so than skill plays a large part in whether a child is ready to play or not - if your child is nervous or anxious at Aussie Hoops we recommend a few more terms before transitioning. Some 6-year-olds are ready to play, whilst others will be 8 before they are ready to take the court.

What are the costs associated with playing?

$25 Basketball Victoria Registration Fee (Annual)

$55 Basketball Geelong Registration Fee (Season - 2 per year)

$40 Sharks Basketball Club Fee (Season - 2 per year)

$80 Sharks Uniform (once-off) – the uniform is yours to keep.

$10 Match Fee (payable at every game).
