BLOODS BANTER: Round 6
The seniors tasted their first defeat for 2021 last weekend. Riley Walker holding down the backline earnt him best on ground honours, while the performances of Jack Walker, Kyle Borg and Lachie Hickey were also admirable in a game which saw the Bloods only register 1 goal up until half time. An improved showing in the third term kept us in the hunt before East Point put the foot down in the last to run away 41 point winners.
Ten points separated the two teams in the Reserves. Sony Ericson kicked a couple of goals, Juzzy Newton was a standout best afield, while Alex Robbo with his new long sleeve guernsey, and recently returned Tim Grech and Anthony Hibbert were in our better players.
The undermanned unders battled away with only 18 players. Skipper Monitto has been walking around with his arm in a sling, and Tomac booked a holiday which didn’t help our cause. Conrad Farrugia was brilliant in his first game with us, while youngster Jude Milburn stepped up in the absence of other players.
On the netball courts, it all went the way of East Point. In Round 3 of BFL Women’s, the result went to Carisbrook.
It has been well publicised that a fortnight ago at Darley our own Dyson Stevens went down with a nasty injury that delayed play by almost an hour as he was attended to on the field by paramedics. The support received since from the Ballarat FNL community has been gratefully appreciated. The club would like to extend our thanks to the Darley FNC and the BFUA umpires for their support on the night, and to East Point FNC who presented the club with a donation to pass onto the Stevens’ family last week.
This Saturday, the Bloods host Redan at home in back to back home games. Footy starts at 9.50am with the U19s, and the netball begins at 10.05am with E Grade. The Bloods women’s footy team are at home this week – 12.45pm start against Sebastopol on Sunday.
A reminder to all that COVID restrictions are still in place - you need to check in when attending MacPherson Park using the QR code on display at the ground, and only players and officials are permitted in change rooms. If you are unwell or showing symptoms of cold/flu please stay at home.
The Bloods male footballers and our netballers have a bye next weekend but there are still a few things happening at the club. Trivia Night is on at the clubrooms on Saturday 29 May. $15 per person or $150 for a table of 10. BYO nibbles and drinks at bar prices. Purchase tickets at the club on online via the link on our website. On Sunday 30 May the Western Jets will play a NAB League U19 match at Maccy Park against the Bendigo Pioneers at 1pm.
The Bloods spend a Saturday afternoon in Ballarat for the first time on June 5 against North Ballarat (just as the weather gets icy) and June 19 against Lakers. Keep an eye on our news pages as we may do a club dinner in Ballarat after one of those games. Our next home game is Saturday June 26 against the Marsh, with our Ladies Day Function in the afternoon, followed by ‘Mr Melton’ that night.
Our Punting Competition is on every Saturday. $20 to enter. See Jacko to find out how to join or visit meltonfnc.funters.com.au
Thursday meals are on again this week - $12 for the best value meal in Melton. Hear the teams as they are selected, around 8.30pm.
Player sponsorship is also a great way to support the club – with our new player pics ready to go why not add your name or business logo below one in the new clubrooms.
Check our website - meltonfnc.com.au for all the info you need about what’s happening at the club and remember to like our pages on social media.
That’s all for this week, on behalf of the committee – GO BLOODS!
