Season 2021 is finally here - 582 days since a Bloods team last took the field or court for an official match. After two pre-seasons, our footballers and netballers are ready to play!
We welcome back our valued members and supporters to the ‘new look’ MacPherson Park. The club cleared out the old building over the New Year with much of our equipment placed in storage until our winter tenancy kicked in, so we appreciate your patience while we continue to set up our new home.
This weekend we host Melton South. Could there be a better way to celebrate the return of local sport than a local derby? On the footy field Braedan Kight will lead the senior team as sole captain for the first time, assisted by Jack Walker and Liam Carter. There are a couple of perpetual trophies on the line too - the reserves footballers will be playing for the Phil Littlewood Trophy, and our netballers in the Nadine Webber Memorial Match. We welcome Roz Baker as our A and B Grade Netball coach for 2021.
COVID has impacted all our lives in the last 12 months, and while it’s great to be back at local footy and netball, some of our usual game day experiences will be different in the short term. We respectfully ask that all supporters understand that change rooms are off limits to anybody other than players and team officials who are participating in the match. This is a Ballarat FNL and AFL Victoria directive that we must follow and is not negotiable.
The Meltonians have been hard at work – Denis Mawson and his team ran a successful Golf Day late last month and have now turned their attention to signing up 2021 members. For more info see Denis or download an application form on our website.
Speaking of our website, www.meltonfnc.com.au is the place to go for all the news. Also remember to like our page on Facebook and Instagram.
Sponsors are so important to our club and despite a tough year we are proud and thankful to all our sponsors for staying on board for 2021. Melton Café Kebab, Hotondo Homes Melton, Schnitz Woodgrove, Dawson’s Pest Control and Bertocchi thank you for being our major partners. We will cycle through all our sponsors in coming weeks.
We’re still waiting on a fixture for our Open Age Women’s football, but the girls have been training for a few months with new coach Michael Emery and we look forward to home matches at MacPherson Park from early May.
Our full apparel range is yet to arrive but there are polo shirts, beanies and scarves in stock. See Bev Hibbert on a Thursday night to purchase your Bloods supporter wear.
Before we run out of space in this column, we need to mention our horse tipping competition. $20 to enter, every Saturday, pick one horse in each race at the main Melbourne meeting and be in with a chance to take home our first prize. See Jacko for more info. Tips need to be in prior to Race 1 at Caulfield this Saturday (approx. 12.20pm).
That is all for this week.
On behalf of the Committee - GO BLOODS!
