Penrith Swans Umpires Recognised

Congratulations to four of our Penrith Swans affiliated umpires as they received recognition from the AFL Umpire Development Awards held Sun, 19 Oct 08 at the Kippax-Carroll Room, Sydney Cricket Ground.

Recognitions included:

Graduation Certificate Green to Orange Shirt - Matthew Krise

GSJ-SW Grand Final Umpires - Matthew Krise, Gail Bennett, Michael Elliott & Luke Hall

GSJ-SW Golden Whistle Award - Luke Hall

Of particular note was the attendance of special guest presenter, Matthew James, a three-time AFL Grand Final field umpire. Matthew is often regarded as the number 1 umpire in the AFL.

A special mention must also go to ex Penrith Swans Team Manager Christine Burrows. Chris has been in the role of Regional Umpiring Coordinator since Season 1999, coaching & mentoring young umpires willing to learn. Besides obtaining the 2008 GSJ-SW Chairman's Award, Chris was also recognised at this event for her wonderful effort as a Regional Umpiring Mentor. Well done Christine.
