To all Newtown & Chilwell Football Netball Club Members, Players, Coaches and Supporters
With the winding up of the COVID-19 affected 2020 season, as a club and committee, we have caught up to finalise the year, and start planning for season 2021.
Where we found the season finishing earlier than we would have liked, I hope everyone agrees it was worth the effort to at least have a few games of junior football and netball played, albeit in a controlled environment.
This is likely to be our ‘new normal’, and it also gave us the opportunity to participate in a modified competition, and the learnings of new protocols and procedures will set us in good stead moving forward.
From the committee and I, we appreciate the massive task undertaken to participate in junior competition this year. To all coaches, team managers, junior committee members, junior co-ordinators, parents, players and volunteers; thank you for your efforts in ensuring that we got through the short season safe and healthy.
I would like to thank Craig Morrissy in leading the junior football, and Wendy Castle as Netball President. Both were in their first year in the role, and the club truly appreciates your efforts and guidance in a challenging season.
As a committee, our priority is to ensure we have a safe environment to participate in sport, and also continue to survive as a club into the future.
Season 2020 has obviously seen us take a significant financial hit in sponsorship, meal nights, all social and fundraising activities. Expenses were still significant including game day equipment, umpires fees, ground rental, insurance, lighting, medical supplies, football jumpers and stocked team kit bags. We also accepted additional costs to be COVID safe, including disinfectant wipes, sanitisers and increased cleaning costs. During the week, AFL Barwon waived some junior member fees, which equated to a $2,700 saving, which was greatly appreciated.
To survive, and keep improving facilities for us all to use, we will need your continued support.
As a committee, we have agreed to offer partial membership refunds per junior membership paid. We are still working out projections for the 2021 season to confirm the amount we can afford to refund and be sustainable, but please contact myself, Wendy Castle or Craig Morrissey to organise this for you.
For those that choose to donate their membership/s to the club, we want you to know this is greatly appreciated and it will be used to keep updating our facilities and ensure it is a safe place to be in 2021. This will also help us keep the membership costs down for everyone next season, and we will run a raffle to you specifically to show our appreciation.
We believe as a club that we need to also support our members and families. If you have been adversely financially affected by COVID, please let us know, and we will discuss a larger refund to help out at this time. All conversations will be kept confidential.
Thank you for your support and understanding to ensure your club’s viability into the future.
