The first year in Div 1 State league will come with many challenges. Regardless of what transpires on field this year, the future should be very bright for the new team that will not only represent the Aspley Hornets but will have a component of our squad from other clubs from the region.
Because of this, one of my first tasks will be to build a much better relationship with clubs such as Sandgate and Wilston Grange. It will be of paramount importance to work in conjunction with other clubs who we will depend on, for up and coming young players wishing to take the next step.
I am confident that we can have a situation in which all Northside clubs can work together and not feel as though it is a one way street where they loose young talent to the Hornets but get little in return. I have already spoken to representatives from a number of clubs and the reponse has been terrific with all concerned keen to start a new chapter in player development and club communication.
As was the case with Zillmere Eagles, the Hornets will tap into the many talented players coming up through the AFLBJ. Of the 3 youth, Div 1 grand finals played out last month, Aspley won the U12-Div 1 and U14 Div1 whilst sandgate won the U16 div 1 premiership.
So as you can see, over the coming years, we will have an enormus amount of talented young players all hoping to play div 1 State League on thier way to being drafted.
