The club received contact today from Steve Harrison who is the son of a former 1953 Premiership player Reg Harrison. Reg was a dashing wingman with a very good stab pass.
Reg and his brother Kevin both shared an association with the Avoca FNC back in the fifties and are very proud to have played in our 1953 premiership.
The brothers eventually moved on to other places.
Kevin passed in recent years and his ashes were scattered on the Avoca Football Oval.
Reg went onto play and coach in South Australia when he joined the RAAF and played/coached some premiership A-Grade for Salisbury North, and the Elizabeth (which became Central Districts in the SANFL).
Reg who is now in his 90th year, was also obviously an athletic type as after football he took on golf and got down to a 3 handicap, and then in his cottage took on bowls and won a few championships.
Reg & Kevin’s father Hec also played for Avoca in the 1920’s and 30’s and was a three time premiership player in 1927, 28 & 29, and was club Secretary in 1932 & 1933.
We thank Steve for his correspondence today and we wish Reg and the Harrison family well.
