As we announce our new club captain for 2020, we would like to thank Maverick Gleed on his 6 years of service as captain of the Whitehorse Pioneers Football and Netball Club.
Maverick started his career at Whitehorse in 2005 playing for the U/18s side under Zane Job.
In 2007 he played his first senior game, where he finished out the season with a Premiership Flag in Division 4 under Trevor Rowe.
In 2014, Mav took over the captaincy under new coach Ben Russian. Since then Mav has been an outstanding leader on and off the field, always putting the team before himself.
Aside from the serious part of footy, Mav loves to bring a laugh to the room and he would do this on a regular basis on Thursday nights with his jokes, to player look a-likes and “Open Mav”.
After 6 years of captaincy Mav has become the longest serving captain along with club legend Steve Walsh.
Mav’s accolades over his 210 game career at Whitehorse so far include:
- 2007 Premiership player
- Team of the decade 2004-2013
- Captain of the 2017 EFL Division 4 Team of the Year
- 2017 Best & Fairest
- 2018 Premiership captain
