Dear AFL Sydney Junior Clubs,
As per the below the statement that was released a short time ago, the AFL has made the difficult decision to postpone the start of the 2020 Community Football/Auskick season nationally until May 31 as a result of the response to COVID-19.
This date falls in line with the postponement of all state league competitions and talent programs across the AFL. We thank you for your patience as the AFL has worked through this decision from a national perspective. Whilst this is not the decision that the AFL wanted to have to make, given the current climate of uncertainty and complexity, the AFL felt it was best for our community to take decisive action now and be part of the whole of community response.
As outlined in the AFL’s message, the postponement of the season until this date also means the cancellation of practice matches, training sessions (including umpire training) and AFL education courses until this time.
As a league, we understand the impact that this is going to have on the competition and Clubs. Although this outcome may not be the decision that some Clubs were hoping for, as a football community we must come together and respond accordingly as we navigate through an extremely difficult time for everyone here in Australia and around the world.
