Osborne Football Club Presidents AGM report 2019
2019 was another big season for the Osborne Football Club that commenced by us reclaiming the ’Tigers’ and culminated with 4 teams playing in the Grand Final and winning 2 premierships – first grade and Under 14’s.
Our ground was in magnificent condition considering the dam was empty when we unfurled the 2018 Under 17’s Premiership flag to start the home and away season. Congratulations to all the football and netball teams who performed strongly throughout the season with 7 teams making the finals. For the first time Osborne had four teams finish in the top 2 on the ladder. This wonderful achievement is a reward to our fantastic players, skilled and knowledgeable coaches, strong and cohesive committees, fantastic and professional support staff and the many marvellous volunteers and supporters of our ‘club without at town’.
The year started off with more upgrades of our facilities with the playground, kid safe zone, new fencing and viewing hills. These upgrades enable people to watch both football and netball and promote a family atmosphere for our community. Many thanks to the Lockhart Shire Council, NSW Government, and of course the outstanding volunteers who completed many hours of work.
To all our football coaches thank you and congratulations on another stellar season. Matt continued as our senior football coach for the 2019 season. It is fantastic to have him and his family at the club and a wonderful way to finish his coaching term at Osborne with another premiership. Thanks to Dougo, Sam, Jamie, Connor, Andrew and David who have volunteered their time again to coach our footballers in 2019.
We were proud to host the 2019 Hume Vs Farrer interleague games for football and netball. Thanks must go the HFNL and FFNL organisers for their support. Our facilities were proudly on display to the entire region on a magnificent autumn day. Congratulations to all of the Osborne community who were involved as players, coaches, trainers, umpires, canteen workers, volunteers and supporters. This was one of my highlights for the year.
Congratulations to the award winners at our recent Presentation night. I’d like to make special mention of our First grade Best & Fairest winner, Declan O’Rourke who played consistently throughout the season and provided one of the nights highlights with his very funny acceptance speech.
It’s been a great season for our younger generation having 6 nominations in the HFNL and HNA Rising Star awards. Congratulations also to our champion junior players: Sam Stenning (Outstanding Junior Footballer), Eddy O’Connell (under 17’s best & fairest), Rachel Galvin (R/U 16&under B&F) and Rio Weidemann (14&Under Best & Fairest). To other Osborne award winners on the night: Jack Gleeson and Shayne Weidemann…thank you for all you do for our club!
Success on the field comes with hard work, dedication and support off the field. I would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge the efforts of our volunteers again this year. In particular thanks to:
- All our wonderful sports trainers
- Anthony, Dadio, Hugh and everyone who umpires during the season
- Spud, Owen & Rec ground committee
- Heidi for her work on sponsorship
- Carol and the Ladies Auxiliary
- Jane and the Netball Club
- Claire and the social committee
- Liz who has done a fantastic job on the crier this year (loved the flashbacks)
To our valued sponsors of the Osborne Football Club, we thank you for your ongoing support of our club. In particular thanks to Landmark, Gallagher, Kennedy Bros Earthmoving who are our major sponsors in 2019.
We supported the ‘Fight MND’ campaign again this year and raised valuable funds through the sale of socks and donations from the community. We also participated in raising awareness about mental health on ‘RUOK’ day.
Thanks to the HFNL Board, especially chairman Brendan I‘Anson, for all their hard work this season which has seen fantastic competitions for both football and netball.
Finally, huge thanks to the OFC committee members who work well together to promote football in our community and it is great to work with such passionate and hardworking people. In particular I would like to thank my executive team vice president Spud, secretary Wal and treasurer Benno who work closely with me to keep the operation running smoothly.
My last thank you is to all of my family as their support enables me to undertake this demanding role as a football club president.
Looking forward to 2020 we welcome a new senior football coach, Joel Mackie and his family, to Osborne as well as celebrating 50 years in the Hume Football League. Our club is one of the leaders of the league and we must continue to encourage and support each other because it takes commitment and courage to keep a club strong and improving. We must all become involved and work together to grow our club and community through promotion of junior football and netball and by being here for each other.
“Like the Tigers of old, we’re strong and we’re bold, cause we’re from Tigerland’.
