League Women - Uni Rebels Vs TV Jets
First game back from the break. Rebels women's got off to a good start. Leading the quarter 16 - 13. Having majority of the ball just not capitalising on scoring opportunities.
Jets came out firing in the second and third quarter limiting the rebels women's ability to score. Getting a 10 to 2 run in the second and 16 - 5 in the third.
Rebels started the fourth well but couldn't close the gap going down 45 - 33.
Shavayah Lee top scored with 10 and 8 rebounds followed by kayllah motlop with 9points.
Katie nicholson and danielle ponter worked hard defensively with katie finishing 15 rebounds and Danielle 12 and 6 points.
League Men - Uni Rebels Vs TV Jets
Huge match up between Uni Rebels and TV Jets last Saturday night for the second place spot on the ladder; with Uni Rebels missing key starter Jason Goodwin spending time with his new born child (Crongratulations Jason!) and TV Jets without American import Austin Hill. Rebels went point for point with TV Jets in the first 4 minutes of the game going out to a 9-10 deficit. Then Rebels Men turned on the defensive intensity for the last six minutes of the first quarter and went on a 16-2 run, Rebels controlled TV Jets offense output in the first quarter and finished 27 to 12.
Rebels leading scorer Lawrance Triplett (38pts) steered the Rebels offense by making great plays in the offensive end with 20 rebounds, 12 assists 2 steals and a block. TV Jets found scoring momentum in the second quarter but Uni Rebels was in full control on both sides of the floor, Rebels was able to extend the lead and finished the first half with an 23-point lead over TV Jets 60 to 37 which is way below Jets Mens scoring average.
Uni Rebels Head Coach Mike Nixon kept the side's defensive intensity on point and made some timley in game adjustments to keep the momentum on Uni Rebels' side. Uni Rebels' defense was stifling in the third quarter trying to compensate for the absence of Rebels defensive stalwart Jason Goodwin. Rebels Men opened the flood gates in third quarter and had 31-point quarter behind the hot shooting of Team Captain Jake Kirby (15pts) who hit five three pointers in the game and gave Uni Rebels more breathing room and a 39-point advantage going in to the fourth quarter 91 to 52.
Uni Rebels Big Men had a field day in this match; Daniel Green (28pts) and 23 rebounds and Eric Klenke (16 pts) and 5 rebounds. Super sub Shannon Bartlett (9 pts) provided the extra spark for Rebels coming off the bench and contributing defensively and offensively. TV Jets import Raymond Mitchell (16 pts) kept in check thanks to the great team defense by Rebels, Uni Rebels was able to limit TV Jets scoring options and was in absolute control of the game. Uni Rebels Men's hard work on defense paid off and finished the game 117 to 80. The win gives Uni Rebels Men tied for second place with TV Jets but wins the tie breaker by 4 points in the aggregate. Rebels League Men next game will be against Essington next Saturday night at 8:30pm on Crt 1.
