It was a huge night for Jaryd as he also won a place in the prestigious TAC Cup team of the year, the competitionâs version of their all star team. Joining Jaryd in the team was Koby Stevens who has also had a wonderful year as a bottom age player where he too did well in the state team in the national championships. Koby played several games as an under 16 player with the Power in 2007 including two finals where he made significant contributions.
Like Jaryd he pushed himself to improve all aspects of his game and has gone from being a clever forward to a pivotal member of the Powerâs strong midfield unit. He has all the physical attributes to excel but has the mental strength to work consistently hard to use his innate talents to the teamâs benefit. His performance in the 2008 season has already been recognised and acknowledged with selection in the AIS / AFL academy for 2008-9 and has already attracted the keen interest of recruiters despite the fact that he is ineligible for the draft until the end of next season. Both boys realise that while individual honours are important and worthy of celebration, their main concern is the teamâs needs and the Stingrays game on Saturday.
