Woodend Hesket FNC Under 19s netball Round 12 Review and 15s & 17s netball preview, thanks to Buffalo Sports.
Under 19s
The 19’s team took on Melton Centrals winning 33-18 reclaiming second spot on the ladder.
Knowing that we had four girls out this week due to the school holidays and only beating Centrals by seven-goals in the first round, this wasn’t the close game we anticipated.
Madi Kleiner stepped up once again from the 17’s and did a terrific job in goals for the whole game and young Alice MacDonald-Myers, also from the 17’s, debuted in the WD position, holding the Centrals WA from the circle edge and providing great pressure on the body.
The girls started well, with Amy, Sarah and Gracie providing a very quick defensive mid court, they were able to create plenty of turnovers and drive the ball down the court for the conversion.
Abbey and Shae started to come into the game in the second quarter as they worked to propel the ball out of the defensive end and we went into the main break 18-8.
With Emma needing a rest for a foot issue, it gave us the opportunity to bring Alice into the game and shuffle some positions. Sarah went into goals and Gracie into WA. The girls continued to work hard, however, some unforced errors started to creep into our game and the Centrals shooters took their opportunities when the ball came in to their goal end, shooting with high accuracy. The girls refocussed in the last to bring home a strong win.
Amy Duff was outstanding in the C position all game, creating space and drive through the court and once again intercepting and creating plenty of turnover ball. Amy’s work on the ring and her reliable feeds into the shooters is an asset to the team.
Abbey Glassey responded well to the request at quarter time to work harder, backing herself in to hunt the ball resulting in plenty of intercepts and tips in the last three quarters, while Gracie Reid was strong in the WD position for three quarters, keeping her WA off the circle edge and forcing the ball wide. Gracies drive out of the defensive end from the turnover was also a highlight.
This game was a pleasure to be a part of and the Centrals continue to be a club we look forward to playing every time regardless of the result. Thank you to Gabby for coming along to our ladies day, we loved having your company to help us celebrate Harmony Day and bring awareness to gender equality with the aim of preventing violence against women. It was great to see all players with something orange on! At Woodend-Hesket FNC we value all members of our football netball club and greater community and will continue to proactively push down barriers for gender equality. Go Hawks!
17’s & 15’s
The junior teams had a Bye round due to the school holidays and will play Melton Bloods next at home on Sunday 14th; the 15’s starting at 12noon and the 17’s at 1pm.
There is only three weeks before finals in the juniors - the 17’s netball girls are sitting undefeated on top of the table and after a slow start to the season, our much improved 15’s team is also pushing for finals action, currently sitting 4th on the ladder. With four teams vying for the 3rd and 4th spot in finals the 15’s girls need a strong finish to the year to finish in the top four and be rewarded with a well deserved finals berth. Go Hawks!
