League Men - Ansett Vs Uni Rebels

Uni Rebels Mens without the services of Team Captain Jake Kirby cruised past Ansett last Thursday night, Rebels jumped out to a 11-2 lead in the first two and a half minutes of the game and never looked back. Rebels Men defense was intense and held Ansett to single digits in the first quarter and finished with a 29 to 8.

Interim captain Jason Goodwin (10pts) led the squad by setting an example; working hard on defense and making great plays in the offensive end with 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Ansett found momentum in the second quarter and started to find the basket, but Rebels went point for point and was able to maintain the lead and finished the first half with a 23 point lead over Ansett 53 to 30.

Uni Rebels put in some work in the third quarter and had 35 point quarter behind the hot hand of Lawrance Triplett (44pts) who got a season and career high 44 points, 14 boards, 8 assists and 9 steals; supported by Daniel Green (29pts) with 14 rebounds, 3 assists and a block; and Erik Klenke (10pts) and 3 blocks. Uni Rebels had a 33 point lead to go in the the last quarter 78 to 54.

With Ansett's imports not playing because of suspensions due to an in-game altercation with a Lightning player two weeks ago, it was going to be a tough contest. Uni Rebels Men won every quarter and they also won the last quarter going 23 to 18 and finished the game 110 to 72. The win gives Uni Rebels Men some separation with the rest of the log jam in the middle of the ladder.

League Women - Ansett Vs Uni Rebels

After a slow start Uni Rebels women's were playing catch up basketball. Lack of movement and defensive pressure meant we were trailing 18 - 13 at the first break.

The ladies lifted and it became a more even game. Defensive pressure from both teams made it hard to score.

Just when the ladies went on a run late turnovers in the quarter cost them momentum.

Ladies regrouped and went on a late charge but unfortunately couldn't close the gap.

Danielle Ponter was a standout with 16 points, 19 rebounds. Tara Everett worked hard with 9 points, 12 rebounds.

Going down by 4 points 62 - 58.
