B GRADE
Woodend/Hesket went into the Wallan game with key players unavailable due to injuries and illness, however this did not prevent the starting line up from working hard.
Wallan played a physical and loud defending game. With a wet court, the long game our team likes to play was not an option. Knowing this, the team began playing a controlled short-lead pass game. Keeping possession of the ball was the key.
Our back line of Georgia and Taylor worked hard in the ring, learning the moves of the Wallan shooters. Taylor was also briefed that she was to assist down court. Going from defence and then turning around and attacking down court is demanding, however Taylor continued to perform throughout the entire game.
Our centre court Rylee, Chelsea and Tegan worked tirelessly bringing the ball though the middle, however at times missed placed passes allowed Wallan to intercept.
Louise Marendaz and Courtney Arthurson made their debut in the B Grade team after playing their C Grade team this round. Louise played GS and kept moving to make position to score goals against a very tall and physically GK. Courtney also contributed in the centre court both in the WA and WD position.
Bonnie, Rylee and Emily, who played for a quarter due to illness tried hard to create space for the passes to come into them. It was only in the last quarter that this did appear.
Wallan took the win, while we walked away with an understanding of what their 2019 team is made of. Our B team is wanting another win and it is through these games that the players improve.
Keep working hard ladies, sisterhood - stay united, work hard and it will happen.

A GRADE
With five games of the 2019 season played, the team came together very quickly against Wallan. Each player took the court and actively used the strategies spoken about to keep the possession of the ball. The team was present, in the zone and the team knew what type of game they had to play.
With Emma Cogger making her debut in the A Grade team, she remained calm and played a steady strong game in GA. With the strength of Tara in the ring, both these players worked productively which resulted in goals on the board throughout the game.
Shae Denahy having played a couple of games in the B Grade division was also introduced, with her height and strength, tagged her WA, while assisting down court.
With a diverse mid-court, different combinations were used to either increase drive through the middle, increase defence through the middle or create more speed into the attacking end. No matter what combination that was tried, Shannon, Brittany, Macca and Gracie kept the speed on the lead and on the pass. With a wider vision, and knowing that the long leads and passes was not going to work, all these players kept making second short leads, forward down court.
Abbey and Ally worked tirelessly as the Wallan players were similar in height and speed. This was a smaller game within the game against the Wallan shooters and our defenders. All four players outplayed each other, with Wallan shooters scoring goals, Alley and Abby having tips, interceptions and rebound successes.
With the A Grade team now having a fair amount of court time together, it is expected that a decrease of re-occurring errors within their game would occur and also see more goals being scored with each future game we play.
Well done ladies, it was a good clean game, we competed in every quarter and stayed united. The level of competition was of an A grade standard. We need to keep working hard at training, keep the communication up and score goals.
