The 17’s enjoyed another strong win, this time against Gisborne Rookies 49-25.
The young Hawks were noticeably nervous in the warm up knowing the strength of many of the opposition players, however, once the game started they were at full steam with a 12-7 first quarter.
Gemma and Emma shot at 100-percent and Mikayla and Kate stood strong in defence. Ali went into goals and Gemma tried her hand in defencein the second quarter.
Mikayla continued to work hard in GD, shutting down Gisborne’s GA and most dangerous player. This work forced the ball elsewhere which created turnovers and missed goals by our opposition which Gemma rebounded with ease.
The third quarter was our best with a 14-5 effort as Amy was swung into C pairing up with Ali and Alice to make up the mid court. Our ball movement was exceptional, coupled with plenty of turnover ball through the court created by our strong full court defence.
The girls rounded out the game with Madi coming into GA in the last, teaming up with Gemma to create a very tall shooting ring and bringing home the win with a strong four quarter effort. We scored more than 10 goals in every quarter to ensure we won each quarter with ease.
Another amazing effort in the ring with a combined 81-percent shooting accuracy from Gemma, Emma, Ali and Madi showing the versatility and talent we have in this team.

We had a powerful 54-14 win over Romsey.
We started emphatically, pouring on 17 goals to Romsey’s 1 goal in the first for a near perfect start. The girls full court defensive effort was outstanding which forced plenty of turn over ball.
Shae, Abbey, Gracie & Amy had plenty of tips and intercepts, but our overall team pressure created the opportunities which everyone contributed to.
The second quarter was messy and undisciplined and even though we still scored 11 goals to their four, the girls knew that this was not the way they wanted to play.
In the third the girls came out with renewed focus, our mid court duo in Amy and Gracie switched positions and Jess was swung into goals to trial our third shooting option. The girls settled and continued their dominance working the ball down the court with precision and feeding the goalers with plenty of ball.
The girls didn’t take their foot off the pedal in the final quarter as 13 more goals were piled on by Emma and Gemma at 100-percent accuracy.
Some highlights were Macca’s outside arm clean intercept and Amy’s screamer overhead to save a wayward pass, everyone loves some flair on court.
Our shooters scored with exceptional accuracy, Gemma 88% (30/34), Emma 83% (15/18) and Jess 81% (9/11). Emma led out in front as our GA for all four quarters, working with the young talls with precision for a best on performance.
Amy and Shae also contributed with a solid and disciplined game, Amy with steady feeds into the shooters to get them close to the post and creating turnovers in the mid court and Shae teaming up with Abbey to deliver a strong defensive line down back, with plenty of tips and intercepts to drive the ball back into our attacking end.
While the win was strong, we still have plenty to work on as we build towards Melton Centrals and Macedon over the next two weeks.
C Grade
We enjoyed a four-goal win over Romsey with the team standing firm in the last quarter to win 29-25.
Romsey started strongly in the first quarter as our team struggled to find a clear path into attack and were a little rattled by the opposition. A positional change at quarter time with our captain Chloe Finch coming off the bench into the centre position seemed to settle the team and with a strong nine goal quarter the girls took a 13-9 lead into half time.
Our third quarter was the best of the game although Romsey also scored well in this quarter as the team worked hard to pressure their opposition and slow the play down, executing the plays we had been learning at training.
The last quarter was a little frantic with Romsey making inroads into our lead but the team remained calm and secured the win. In her 100th club game, Sarah Smith was terrific in defence, pressuring her opponent and taking a number of intercepts.
Sarah was well supported in defence by Louise Marendaz who showed she is capable of playing at either end of the court, rebounding really well and making life hard for the shooters. Jasmine Gardner worked really well in GA, feeding the ball well to Alex in GS and making space in the ring.
Special mention to Chloe Finch whose presence on the court really settled the team.
Overall another strong team performance, we need to work on improving our passing and not rushing so that every ball is delivered as well as it can be to our team mate. Looking forward to playing Melton Centrals, another challenge but something we are up to.
