A long trip from Altona to the JC Lowe Oval saw a very upbeat Western Jets ready to take on the Murray Bushrangers in their hometown. Elisabeth Georgostathis started well early in the center of the ground, her ability to read the hit-outs and win the clearances was outstanding. Unfortunately, it didn't result in a score as the Bushrangers kicked their first major of the day. A hard hit on Geogostathis by three Bushrangers would see her sidelined for opening term. Murray took advantage from here, kicking another goal to end the quarter.
Things would only get worse from here as Murray would go on to kick five unanswered goals in the second term. Isabella Grant tried everything to inspire her team, including a hanger that would make Tayla Harris proud. Georgostathis had shaken off the cobwebs from here and continued to battle hard in the midfield. However, the defensive wall that Murray had created, kept the Jets to only 2 behinds at halftime.
This didn't change in the third quarter as both teams fought to a stalemate. Nikita Wright's defensive efforts had risen as she was starting to win the ball and gain some meters from the half-back flank. In the final term, Wright's efforts would be rewarded as she pushed forward and broke the drought for the Jets by kicking her first goal of the season. Murray quickly struck back with another major but the Jets would have the last goal of the day with Chloe Catheron Western-Sirett winning a 50-meter penalty. Much like last week, a few positives to look at in a losing game. However, the Jets must string these good patches of work together in order to break their losing streak.
Hero of the Day: Elisabeth Georgostathis
There is no doubt about this one, even after a heavy hit early Georgostathis was a true ball magnet. Her clearance work and hardball gets were nothing short of first class. She also had the duty of playing against gun Bushranger Millie Brown, which was no easy task. Even with that responsibility, Georgostathis was the stand out of the day.
