Despite the miserable weather conditions and the the disruption of a last day change of venue , the Penrith Swans JAFC were able to make history with 3 x Premiership Flags/Cups to their name.
In the first game of the day, the Under 10 Reds proved they were the best with another big win over the undefeated minor Premiers Blue Mountains White. Robert Badger kicked 3 goals which saw him clip the Under 10 club goal kicking record (42), previously held by Tanami Hill. The 10 Reds also scored the highest score by an Under 10 team in a Grand Final.
Finals scores: Penrith Red 7-7-49 v Blue Mountains White 2-4-16
After a semi-final smashing by Hawkesbury a fortnight ago, it was the Under 12 Swans who showed the Saints exactly what they really wanted with gutsy and determined football. Penrith applied plenty of pressure and in most cases were first to the ball. Man of Match Adam Vance was inspirational with possessions that would make AFL champion Chris Judd blush.
Finals scores: Penrith 7-11-53 v Hawkesbury 1-5-11
In the closest game of the day, it was the Under 16 Lions who had their nose in front for most of the day. A three goal spurt late in the 3rd quarter was enough to kick-start the Swans back into action. In the last quarter, the game could have gone either way but in the end it was the Swans who held on in a nail-biter. Jack Ponton's brilliant individual efforts saw him crowned as Best on Ground.
Finals scores: Penrith 5-6-36 v Hawkesbury 5-3-33
Many thanks to the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury & Emu Plains clubs who provided quality opposition during each of these games. All teams were vailiant in defeat and we're all sure that they'll be there again come Season 2009.
Special thanks also to Emu Plains-Glenmore Park JAFC for their wonderful efforts in getting all teams on the paddock under trying conditions. Thanks too to Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas for the use of their facilities at such short notice.
The Grand Final celebrations continued on as the Peachtree Hotel was later swamped by a sea of Red n White. The formallities saw President Paul Swinfield and all Premiership winning coaches give deserved thanks to their players and support staff. The night was capped off with all players singing the Club song with delightful vigour. WELL DONE SWANS
