Dropping only 3 games for the year usually means it’s been a good one! Unfortunately when one of those games is the grand final… well it’s probably one I’ll try and forget.
Not forget the development and progress of a great bunch of young men, but forget the anger and emotion a big game can bring when
1. Lack of Discipline can be so costly, and 2. The men in orange (who no one goes to watch!), were so bloody noticeable.
Take nothing away from the Mt Gravatt boys, they were terrific and did their club proud, their run and spread really hurt us, too good, well done! I’m sure there are a few lads in that team who will also be regular and consistent performers for
their seniors next year.
Australian Rules football is based around many and various things, commitment, determination, mateship, selflessness, courage... the list goes on and it makes it such a great game to be involved with. The Broadbeach Under 18’s showed a lot of these attributes throughout last Saturday's game, to be a player down for a good part of the game and a player short on the field for 20 minutes of it really hurt the boys structurally, but to their credit, their willingness to work hard for each other kept them in the game right till the end. Discipline or lack of it can cost any side dearly in team sports; one major positive for the club moving forward is that I doubt any player will ever want to put themselves in a position where their undisciplined individual acts will cost the team.
“That’s
Football!” they say. Well let’s learn from it.
All the best to the players who are out of under 18’s now , I’m sure a few of you are capable of filling some holes in the seniors next year. To the rest, let’s make amends next year.
