We are pleased to share with you all the results of our 2018 end of season survey. Thank you to those that took the time to respond, your feedback helps us to understand the areas that you feel we need to review further.

We have long recognised that the facilities at Princes Hwy are less than ideal. We again thank Brian, George and Jeff for their voluntary efforts giving the rooms a fantastic refresh last season.
Unfortunately as this is a Council owned facility there is not a great deal more we can do for this building. We will continue to pursue Council for improvements. It would be of great assistance if teams playing and training at Princes Hwy would ensure rooms are left in a clean and tidy state at the end of their game, so incoming teams are not greeted with a mess. If everyone chips in and is respectful of the space we have, we can at least ensure the rooms remain clean for all Dragons users.
DID YOUR CHILD(REN) ENJOY THEIR 2018 SEASON AT THE DRAGONS: 4.1
We’re pleased with this result. More important than all the questions above, this is the most vital, this is the reason the Club exists and why we all (including you!) do what we do!

Overall, pleasing retention rates. We thank all those who provided a response as to why they will/may not be returning, it helps us plan our numbers and focus on areas that need improving within our Club if identified as a reason for leaving.

Of course the most concerning above is the respondent who said they do not feel welcome, but we are hopeful that 2019 changes will assist to address their specific concerns. The high numbers of participation above demonstrate how many people it takes to get our kids out there having fun! We can’t thank everyone who gives up whatever time they can, enough.

Unfortunately not everyone that responded that they wanted to help out left us their name for us to follow up, we would be very pleased to reach out and find a way for you to get involved, in whatever way you are comfortable. We are very happy to confirm we have signed up a new Committee member and Coach who responded positively to the above!
While there is a long way to go this season, we do need to point out a number of Committee roles that will be vacated at the end of season 2019. The following roles must be filled: Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Child Safety Officer. We would welcome anyone wanting to find out what these roles entail to see if they would suit.
ARE YOU AWARE THAT THE DRAGONS, ALONG WITH OTHER USERS OF W.A. SCAMMELL RESERVE, ARE REQUIRED TO RAISE SUBSTANTIAL FUNDS IN ADDITION TO ANY FUNDING PROVIDED BY GOVERNMENT BODIES, TO SECURE LIGHTS CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING NIGHT TIME GAMES AND TO IMPROVE TRAINING CONDITIONS?

Yes, while we have received a substantial grant from the State Government and are hopeful for the timely confirmation of a large contribution from Monash Council, we do still need to raise funds for lighting. Improved lighting will provide us with far safer training conditions at night, and open up the opportunity for Friday night games. With the continued expansion of junior AFL and particularly girls’ football, increased numbers of teams has made the fixturing of games very difficult for the SMJFL. Friday night games will become more and more common as we progress, we would like to be at the front end of this exciting initiative! Stay tuned for details on an exciting fundraiser during the season!
WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED METHOD OF COMMUNICATION (YOU MAY SELECT MORE THAN ONE):

Facebook:

Team App:

Acorn:

Clearly each of the above plays a role in communication with our Club members, but we are pleased the Acorn has proven so popular! Thanks again to our Acorn Editor Angela, an excellent example of a non-Committee volunteer helping out in a specific role.
As stated, all communication forms play an important role, please ensure you ‘Like’ us on Facebook for regular brief updates (O.Y.C.F.C. – Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club). The Acorn and SportsTG information is sent to your registered email address on SportsTG (check with other family members if you think you are not receiving it), and Team App is a great tool for use by Team Managers and Coaches. Make sure you talk to your Team Manager if you think you are missing these communications.

Another pleasing result. We love the new logo and think the more you see it the more you will love it too. Of course we love our history and the original dragon will always be cherished at the Club, the new logo shows our continued progression as a modern family Club.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS TO HELP IMPROVE THE DRAGONS IN SEASON 2019 AND BEYOND?
We received a number of responses to this question and we thank everyone that took the time to give us feedback. We greatly appreciate being given the opportunity to view the Club from your perspective to see what you think is working and what isn’t.
Some themes:
Coaching language
– We will continue to liaise with our Coaches to ensure they are speaking to, and in front of our kids, with respect. Coaches will be reminded of their Code of Conduct and Child Safe Standards.
Female representation
– We would love to have more female coaches and assistant coaches! The SMJFL are also keen to support female coaches and during 2018 ran some programs to assist. We are sure they will run those again during 2019, anyone interested please contact the Secretary.
– Training and programs to assist with female injury prevention. We are pleased to advise we are actively pursuing this and hope to announce further details shortly.
– Better fundraising and events. We would love some assistance here, more hands and ideas are required and were requested last season, we would hope to have more assistance in this area in 2019. Any ideas from those that provided this feedback would be greatly appreciated.
‘The website is putrid’.
- The website is run on the SportsTG platform and is in-line with the majority of other junior football clubs across the state. We believe it’s an improvement on the previous website. Further, it’s relatively easy for volunteer Committee members who have no IT background to amend when required. Any volunteers with IT knowledge to assist would again be greatly appreciated.
Grub at the Club is too long
- We do recognise this as an issue, particularly for families with young children, but we do see tremendous value in continuing with a whole Club event. It is great for the younger players to see the older players there, to see that they have a home for many years. We will continue to think about the format and welcome ideas.
Club Awards to be spread to non-Committee volunteers
- We are more than happy to recognise all our volunteers, and invited all members to nominate their peers for Club Awards in 2018. This invitation will of course be extended again this year. In 2018, all but one Club Award went to non-Committee members. All nominations are welcome, more information will be sent out again toward the end of the season.
