Life Membership GFNC - 2005
Bill started his association at the club as a 15year old playing in the clubs Under 18 team in 1970. At that time he also played seniors becoming what was thought to be the youngest person to play Seniors. Bill’s promising career was cut short in 1974 when he suffered a significant knee injury. Bill did return to the field in seasons after and managed just over 100 games for the Senior club together with about 40 Under 18 games, but his knee issue would not allow him to reach the same heights.with his footy. It was off the field that Bluey was a significant contributor to the club. He was the clubs Secretary in 1975 and together with a couple of other youngsters kept the club going when it could have gone under. Bill had several stints on the club committee through the eighties with the last one being in the early 2000’s. A draftsman by trade Bill was a key person in all of the club extension plans from 1987 through to the last extension which filled in part of the veranda and built new visitors change rooms. Bluey also turned his hand at coaching being the Reserves coach in 2000. Bill was awarded a Life Membership in 2005 for his service to the club.
