This week began on an extremely good note with seven of our players asked to go to Draft Camp and State Screening. A big effort from the boys and we wish them the best of luck.
The week started on Tuesday night wit training at AUSTAR Arena for the first time in three weeks. Everyone was buzzing and that was what the Rebels boys took into their game this week.
The first quarter seen the Rebel's kick the first goal within the first forty seconds by none other than Tate Radley. The Rebels continued to control most of the quarter, with ball magnet extrodanaire Nick Suban raking up possession after possession. There was also Ryan “Roo” McKenzie putting on a free clinic for the supporters.
As the Second quarter started, Rebel's tough man, Ned Gilbert got his hand on the ball and kicking deep into the forward line, where Taite Radley was marking everything that came his way, and nailing the goals. This gave the Rebel's a handy six goal lead at the main break.
The Third quarter saw the Rebel's take their foot off the gas letting the Knights get the ball deep into their forward line. This spurred the back six on who stuck to their guns and would not give the Knights too many opportunities at goals. Bryn Weadon and Oliver Tate were running the ball out of the backline and hitting up targets with precision.
This quarter was a bit of an arm wrestle and the margin stayed the same leading into the final quarter.
In the Forth and final quarter the Rebel's stayed strong and focused and with precise kicking took the game by eleven goals.
The after match saw first time speaker, Assistant Coach Ivan Pike take to the microphone, it was a tremendous attempt that met with rapturous applause but one one we the players are willing to forget.
Next week sees the Rebel's take on equal Second, the Dandenong Stingrays. This should be a great game and hopefully we will come away victorious.
