After a miserable 4 goals something against minnows Finland, Scotty turned it on with 8 big ones in a second and strong win for the Canuks over the Swedes. Unfortunately, in what was probably a wet and windy track in Warnambool, the Irish - and keep in mind their achievements in aussie rules - got up to defeat Canada by 16 points in a low scoring affair. Scotty notched one of two Canuk majors to bring his total to 13 for the competition - equal leading goalkicker with a Kiwi.
Canada advanced to the quarter finals, having finished second to Ireland, and played Japan. The North Wind were all over their opposition and ran out easy winners. Scot picked up 2 to lift his total to 15 goals, 3 ahead of the pack - it might be Moose 'Buddy' Couver from here on in! Such are the vagaries of the competition that Canada will play Nauru for 5th and 6th. Aussie Rules is the Nauruans national sport also and will provide stiff opposition for the Canuks. Ireland line up against Sth Africa for 3rd and 4th, a big improvement for the Springboks over 2005.
The Grand Final will be a repeat of the 2005 Cup with New Zealand playing PNG at the MCG. Saddle up Hutchy for the Kiwis!
