The Western Jets recovered from a poor start to return to the winners list against the Bendigo Pioneers on the weekend.
The Pioneers jumped out of the blocks well but just couldn’t finish off their good work. They led by four points at the first break kicking 2.5 to 2.1 in the first quarter. The second quarter saw them hit their straps and show why they knocked off finals bound Oakleigh the last week. They ran hard and Rhys Healy was providing a good target around half forward. They slammed on 5 goals to 2 and looked liked going away with the game when they led by 19 points at half time.
Western came from the long break firing and kicked the first couple of goals to get themselves back into the contest. Mitchell Banner, who played his best game for the season, was in everything and with Jack Sims’ 3 goal quarter provided the spark to take the Jets to the lead by 13 points at the last change.
The last quarter was tight; neither team was able to kick consecutive goals to really control the game and eventually the Jets ran out 19 point victors.
The Jets now face the Geelong Falcons on Sunday from 1pm at Burbank Oval.
