Clayton have taken out the SFNL Women’s Division 2 Premiership for 2018 in spectacular fashion, taking down favourites Lyndhurst by 11 points.
Lyndhurst 5.2 (32) def by Clayton 6.7 (43)
The giant-killing Clayton won the grand final the same way that they’ve gone through their entire season, taking down teams that the rest of the competition would have written them off against.
Clayton kicked three goals to none in the first quarter to start their game off with good momentum, before failing to score at all in the second. The Lightning took their opportunity here, kicking two goals and closing the gap to have just a nine-point deficit at half time.
But Clayton were able to hold onto their lead in the second half, kicking three goals to two in the third, and despite losing the final term were able to contest and keep the game on their terms to the final siren of the season.
Minor premiers Lyndhurst were honourable in defeat and Jessica Wilkins starred for the losing side kicking three goals.
For Clayton, Stephanie Sandoval was at her best yet again also kicking three to claim the best on ground medallion. Tayla Austin, Danielle Fredrickson and Suzannah Collins all kicked premiership goals.
Congratulations to all the girls in the SFNL Women’s Division 2 for a fantastic season, and to Clayton the 2018 Premiers!
