The finals might officially be starting this weekend, but our last round senior match against Bacchus Marsh had all the ingredients of a finals like contest. Perfect weather greeted us at Maddingly Park and most will agree the standard and intensity of the game was the best we’ve seen this year. It was another difficult day to identify standouts, but Jaycob Hickey, the Carter brothers, Lachie Walker and Griff were among the better players. We look forward to this week’s match against Lake Wendouree and our first senior finals appearance in over a decade.
The reserves had a day to forget last Saturday. After kicking the opening goal of the game it was all Bacchus Marsh after that. Attention quickly turned to the margin – and the score down the road where Melton South and Sebastopol were doing battle. Fortunately the siren went in the nick of time at both venues, and we held onto 6th spot by 0.57% over Sebastopol and get the chance to reload this weekend in an elimination final against Sunbury.
The Unders were unable to finish their season with a win, but we are proud of the way they stayed together this year and look forward to seeing most of them go around in the Under 19 competition next year.
Mixed results too in Netball with A Grade missing out by the smallest possible margin. B Grade and the Under 19s had good wins. Finals appearances for the Under 19’s is at Darley where they meet Lakers in an Elimination match on Saturday, while the D Grade girls meet Melton South at Darley but on Sunday. Please make every effort to get to support the girls on both days.

The date for the AGM has been set for Wednesday 21st of November at the clubrooms. Please keep the date free and please consider jumping on board the committee as there is always plenty of work to be done. This is a good time to thank our volunteers and helpers around the club, in canteen, cleaning, beer booth, bar “The MICK SIMPKINS” bar that is, gate, Thursday meals, raffles, timekeeping, team officials, coaches, trainers, Meltonians, Ground Managers, merchandise, scoreboard etc. Always something to do and always someone willing to help out. Thanks to everybody. Playing in finals in football and netball is the only reward most of our helpers get for their efforts.
