An undermanned Jets were unable to take the points in a hard fought contest against North Ballarat on Sunday.
The Western Jets who had 6 players out due to the Herald Sun shield final on Saturday came up against a strong Ballarat side at Austar Arena on Sunday. Conditions weren’t ideal yet the scores at quarter time would have suggested otherwise.
The Jets were jumped by the Rebels and in a blink of an eye they were 3 goals up. Jets regained their composure and with the tall timber of Haby and DiMartino marking well up forward closed the early margin to 12 points at quarter time.
The Jets started the second quarter well and kicked 3 of the first 4 goals to hit the lead briefly before half time but the Rebels steadied late to restore their early lead and went into the main break 13 points up.
The second half was an arm wrestle, Dimartino and Haby continued to be the marking options up forward fro the Jets but the couldn’t reel in the North Ballarat side. The 3 quarter time margin was 11 points and despite having a lot of the footy in the last quarter couldn’t quite close the gap. In the end the Rebels ran out 11 point winners.
The loss puts the Jets in 5th place with 3 weeks remaining. This week sees the Jets return to Burbank oval to take on the Bendigo Pioneers. Start time is 1:00pm
