BOROUGH STEAL A THRILLER OVER ARCH RIVAL AT HOME

PORT Melbourne has snatched a thrilling 10-point victory over arch-rival Williamstown at TEAC Oval on Saturday afternoon.
The Seagulls started well though, with a 3 goal to 2 first quarter, giving them a tight 2 point advantage going into the first break.
But the Borough hit back strongly in the second term, slamming on 5 goals to 2, as they took a handy 8 point lead into the main break.
A 6 goal to 5 third quarter kept the contest close, but the Borough still lead at the 3/4 time break, this time just 14 points adrift of the luckless Seagulls.
A 3 goal apiece final term by both sides kept the game tight but the Borough held sway to finish 10 point victors, despite a late surge by the Seagulls.
The final scoreline reading Port Melbourne 16.17 (113) to Williamstown 14.19 (103).
Players to impress for the home side included livewire forward Robin Nahas (4 goals), defender John Baird (3 goals), forward David Pitt (2 goals), midfielder Patrick Hassett (2 goals), Stephen Brewer, Cory McGrath and Sam Pleming.
Best players for the Seagulls included forward Patrick Rose (3 goals), skipper Brett Johnson (2 goals), David Stretton (2 goals), former Bendigo Bomber Jason Cloke (1 goal), and another former Bomber in Ben Jolley.
In the reserves, Williamstown got over a gallant Port Melbourne side by 38 points.
The final scoreline reading Williamstown 17.13 (115) to Port Melbourne 12.5 (77).
In Round 18 of the VFL, Port Melbourne travel down to Skilled Stadium to tackle the 10th placed Cats on a Sunday afternoon while Williamstown host the Bendigo Bombers on a Saturday afternoon.
