When did you start umpiring?
I started umpiring Juniors on the Central Coast in 2012 and started umpiring Seniors in the NCCUA in 2014 as a boundary umpire.
What made you give umpiring a go?
When I was first looking into umpiring I was looking to learn more about the game myself, so I had the ability to teach younger players the rules before I played my games.
What do you enjoy most about umpiring?
The friendships – building up rapport through physical teamwork is a great way to meet new people and form strong bonds.
What have been the highlights of your umpiring career so far?
I have had three clear highlights in my memory, first being my first Premier Division Grand Final in 2015 as a boundary umpire. The next highlight was when I was sponsored to go to the Albury Carnival with Lincoln McCauley. Meeting with Graham and the other umpire coaches at that event really elevated my absolute love for umpiring Aussie Rules. The final highlight was second Premier Division Grand Final in 2017 as a boundary umpire. While I was late to the game itself, I am proud of my efforts on that hot stinking day.
Who is the best umpire you've umpired with?
The big rig, Ashley Borg. His continued efforts have really inspired me to invest in umpiring in this region for the long run, both on the field and off. The knowledge I still gather from him in match management and positioning at training and on game-days really impacts how I approach umpiring. He is definitely the smartest runner on the pitch at all times.
Who is the funniest umpire you've run with?
It should be obvious, but it is a tie. Between the unit Lincoln McCauley & his dad, Carl Baron.
Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
The only ‘ritual’ I like to partake in as an up and coming field umpire is bouncing a shocker in the centre of the pitch before the first term starts. Apparently in my mind, that helps me throw the ball nicely throughout the rest of the game.
What is your favourite type of music?
Mainly Hip Hop, a bit of classic rock, and some doof-doof. I also enjoy making Hip Hop music.
