Last Saturday we headed down the road to take on Wedderburn coming off the interleague break. The Seniors welcomed back Ben Walklate for his first game for 2018 after the birth of his 3rd Child, Ella. Ben didn’t disappoint taking a strong mark early and kicking the first goal of the game after swinging onto his trusty left foot. This started a quick direct style of play based on the back of pressure and run. Further goals to Matt Giri, Ben Roberts, Tom Finlay and Kain Robins saw a seven goal opening term and a 33 point lead at the first break. The lead extended out to 46 points at the main break with Kieran Sait, Tom Finlay and Aaron Walklate providing plenty of run and carry. Everyone was playing their part and following the Coaches instructions which led to disciplined, decisive footy. As expected the Redbacks lifted in the third term but our desire was strong and we managed to control the lead with both sides kicking three goals apiece. Wedderburn threw everything at us in the final term and they outran us and outscored us leaving plenty of supporters nervous, getting within 9 points. Steadying goals to Kieran Sait and Tom Finlay helped stem the tide and we won our second game in a row by 16 points to find ourselves one game out of the top four.
The Reserves got outplayed by last seasons Premiers and suffered a heavy loss. Joe Williams ran and tackled all day while Tyson Watton, Cobi Fitzpatrick, Lachlan Holmes Brown, Will Fitzpatrick and Matt Thompson all battled hard in defence.
