When did you start umpiring. 2015 as a goal umpire and then field umpire in 2017
What made you give umpiring a go. My son was umpiring, I was taking him to training a couple of times a week and to games on the weekend so I figured I may as well get involved. It gave me something to do when I was there anyway and helped cover the cost of petrol!!
What do you enjoy most about umpiring. I enjoy the comraderie of the group, we always have a laugh in the rooms before and after the game and I enjoy being right in the middle of the action and seeing the game from a totally new perspective.
Highlights of your umpiring career so far. I’m very much in the infancy of my umpiring career but highlights so far have been being a part of the emerging womens’ football competition in the region. It’s exciting to see the growth and improvement at this level and I’m looking forward to what the future holds, hopefully with more female umpires joining our ranks.
Best umpire you've umpired with. Stephen Blume
Funniest umpire you've run with. How to pick just one? Often the best humour emerges in the coming together of a quirky panel, we feed off one another. Notable comics would be Cooper Williams, Nick Hickson and Xander Robinson. Joey O’Brien is also refreshingly funny for one so serious about umpiring.
Umpired previously before the NCCUA. No
Pre game rituals superstitions. I always use pink tape on my fingers and whistle grip to stop the whistle from slipping and I braid my hair and tie it with a ribbon that matches my umpire shirt. The only time I didn’t wear the ribbon in my hair, bad things happened, so I strongly believe in the rituals!
