DOLPHINS DIVE INTO EIGHT AFTER IMPRESSIVE WIN OVER BOROUGH

THE Frankston Dolphins now replace the Carlton-aligned Northern Bullants in eighth position on the VFL ladder after their 26 point victory over the third-placed Port Melbourne at Frankston Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Dolphins started very well with a 5 goal to 1 first term, netting them with a 30 point advantage at quarter time.
The Dolphins kicked another 3 goals to Port’s 1 in the second term, as they took a 39 point lead into the main break.
The Borough hit back in the third term as they slammed on 3 goals to Frankston’s 2, but the Dolphins still held onto a 32 point lead.
Despite a 4 to 3 goal fest by the Borough in the final quarter, the Dolphins held onto a 26 point victory.
The final scoreline reading, Frankston 13.14 (92) to Port Melbourne 9.12 (66).
Players to impress for the home side included forward Justin Berry (2 goals), ex-Seagull Clinton Proctor (2 goals), Tory Dickson (2 goals), ruckman Chris Oliver, midfielders Paul Kennedy (1 goal) and Marcus Marigliani, as well as stand-in captain Neil Winterton.
Best players for the Borough included forward David Pitt (2 goals), midfielders David Robbins and Patrick Hassett, as well as defensive trio Luke Livingston, Sam Pleming and John Baird.
There were no injuries for the Dolphins but Port Melbourne midfielder David Spriggs sustained a corked hip, putting him into some doubt for next week’s big game against the Werribee Tigers.
Earlier in the day, the Port Melbourne reserves defeated their Frankston opponents by 59 points.
The final scoreline reading, Port Melbourne 19.10 (124) to Frankston 10.5 (65).
Next week in Round 16 of the VFL competition, Port Melbourne face a crunch game against the in-form Werribee Tigers on a Saturday afternoon at TEAC Oval, while the Frankston Dolphins tackle the Essendon-aligned Bendigo Bombers at home on a Sunday afternoon.
