BOROUGH SMASH TIGERS IN EPIC WIN
BY JUSTIN COOPER
PORT Melbourne continued their fine run with another impressive performance on Saturday afternoon against the Coburg Tigers at ABD Group Stadium, upsetting the Tiger faithful with a 75 point shellacking.
The Borough had a terrific start slamming on 6 goals to 1, as they took a very handy 37 point advantage into the quarter-time break.
The Tigers stepped their feet into gear as they matched Port’s 3 goals for the second term with 3 majors of their own, but it was Port who took the solid 39 point buffer into the main break.
The Tigers capitulated in the third term which saw them manage only 1 goal to the Port’s 5 majors.
After a three-quarter time surge from coach Jade Rawlings, the Tigers lifted to put 4 goals on the scoreboard but it wasn’t enough to match the Borough’s 5 goals for the term as the boys from Port ran away 75 point victors over a disappointing Tigers outfit.
The final scoreline reading, Port Melbourne 19.19 (133) to the Coburg Tigers 8.10 (58).
Players to impress for the Borough included midfielders Ryan McMahon (2 goals) and David Robbins, defenders Sam Pleming, John Baird and Cory McGrath as well as tough nut Toby Pinwill.
Best players for the Tigers on a miserable day included midfielder Nick Carnell, defender Andrew Horne, forward Josh Jones (1 goal), as well as Richmond listed players Daniel Jackson (1 goal), Andrew Collins (1 goal), Chris Hyde (1 goal) and Danny Meyer.
The top of the table Coburg Tigers toppled Port Melbourne in the reserves earlier in the day with a frightening 73 point win.
The final scoreline reading, the Coburg Tigers 18.10 (118) to Port Melbourne 6.9 (45).
Players to impress for last year’s reigning premiers included Joe Gazzo (5 goals), Jake De Sousa (3 goals), Damien Rayson (1 goal) and Matthew Vasilevski.
Best players for the Borough on an off day did include midfielder Will Debruin (1 goal), defender Brendan Neville (1 goal), ruckman Levi Dare, Luke Kyriakides and midfielder Jason Kennedy.
In Round 15 of the VFL competition, Port Melbourne travel down to the Peninsula to tackle the Frankston Dolphins on a Saturday ABC game while the Coburg Tigers face the daunting task of going up to Burbank Oval to wrestle with ladder-leader Williamstown.
