FOOTBALL
Round 2 saw Donald travel to Charlton. The opening term of the Seniors saw a see-sawing affair with both sides getting plenty of ball and opportunities. Ryan Wellington was providing a focal point in attack but some less than ideal entry into the forward line made things more difficult. We were seven points down at the first break. Donald’s run and spread challenged us from this point and we played catch up footy. The Navies had plenty of positive patches throughout the game but with players getting shifted around to stem Donald’s run it was hard to get some consistency going. We were within four goals at the last break and attacked early in the last only to kick inaccurately. Donald’s superior skill then came to the fore in junk time and they ran out 52 point winners.
The Reserves got off to a positive start in perfect conditions grabbing a four point lead at the first break. Joe Tormey was good in attack and Connor Lee had a good game of footy on his comeback from injury and illness over the break. Joe Williams also showed he’ll be an asset in Navy Blue. The lead extended out to 19 points at the half before Donald made a comeback on the back of superior run and numbers to the ball. They ran out winners by 23 points.
