WOW what a way to start the Season. 8 out of our 10 teams were at Memorial Oval on Sunday and the Magpie Army was out in force.
A bright and early start saw our Under 9 White take the field with many first time players enjoying a run. Great skills and teamwork on display. Well done kids and coaching crew.
Under 9 Black travelled to Thomas Acres, again with many first time players. An awesome round 1 for our young players. Great teamwork and enthusiasm on display. Well done to everyone involved.
Under 10 Black and Under 10 White were our second games of the day. Both teams moved the ball around well and looked for each other during the game. Lots of great marking and kicking skills, but most of all lots of smiles and happy kids. Congratulations Under 10s.
As our Under 9’s and 10’s are not competitive ages, we have flexibility in team line ups. We will look to finalise teams soon to help with your planning. Thank you for your patience as we look to maximise game time opportunities for the kids. Again should you have any game time and location questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Under 11 (Div 1) saw the beginning of our competitive aged teams. A transition from Under 10 footy saw our players have the run of the field outside of zone footy, and run they did. Teamwork, kicking, marking, handballs – they had everything. Their enthusiasm was contagious with lots of support within the team and from around the ground. A win for Round 1 was a great way to start the season. Congratulations players and coaching staff.
Under 12 (Div 1) continued our games at Memorial Oval. A great effort by this dynamic team. Hard footy, great teamwork, good skills on display. A tough opposition saw this team work hard for it’s win. Well done players and coaching staff.
Under 13 (Div 2) transitioned to a full field with lots of players working hard across the ground. A strong start resulted in a win for the team and great teamwork by everyone to start the season. We are pleased to report that the player from St Clair who was injured is OK and is on the improve. Our best wishes to the St Clair Crows player, we look forward to seeing him back on the field.
Under 14JV (Div 1) were welcomed at Thomas Acres as they took on Blue Mountains. Wollondilly, Sth Campbelltown and Ingleburn players all worked together against a tough opposition to come away with a win. Great teamwork and footy skills will position this team well for Season 2018. Well Done Redbacks, Kangas and Magpies.
Under 15 (JV) Youth Girls were well represented. The Club is extremely proud of its inaugural Youth Girls team and partnership with Wollondilly Redbacks JAFC. We were even prouder of them on Sunday. They were fitted out with new Guernseys and were ready to get started. Whilst they did not come away with a win, this will be an exciting side to watch. Well done to the coaching staff and well done girls. We can’t wait to see you in action for Season 2018.
Under 15s (JV) Magpies and Redbacks were ready for Round 1 and what a round it was!! A tough, hard, physical game by both teams. Some of the best footy of the day by these two talented teams. A hard fought win by our boys with lots of teamwork and great footy skills. This will certainly be a team to watch. Congratulations to the boys and Coaching team.
These days at Memorial Oval would not happen and be as successful as they are without the hard work of all our volunteers. Many of these Volunteers were down at the ground before 7am and still there after 6pm. We sincerely thank all those who volunteered in the canteen and cooked the BBQ, set up and packed up the ground. Ground Managers, TimeKeepers, Goal Umpires, Boundary Umpires, Coaches, Managers, Runners. Parents that collected the rubbish to keep the ground clean. The many volunteers who ran water to our teams on what was a very hot day.
A special thank you to Donny Dean, Level 2 Sports Trainer who was positioned on the sideline all day to ensure any of the injured players were in experienced medical hands. Thank you as well to Rhonda from St Johns Ambulance.
Our club would not exist or be the welcoming or inclusive club that it is without all this wonderful support. #SideBySide #Magpies #MagpieArmy #Community
