As far as the Footy Club was concerned, Vic was actually an assistant Secretary in 1948 when he was about 25 and then later he joined the Committee from 1971 to 1977 and was, as shown in the picture (right), a Trainer. I can imagine Vic telling an injured player. “ Get up you week b………” He pretty well spoke his mind and had a wonderful, if not different, sense of humour.
During that period we actually had our Committee meetings, player gatherings before finals in his garage. We helped Vic spruce it up and we jokingly called it the “Hunt & Social Club”
Because I was playing Cricket and Footy I saw a lot of Vic and his family and can clearly remember going to his place one day and there was Vic cutting a piece of wood but measuring it’s length with a large cabbage leaf. (true)
We have a perpetual trophy donated by Vic and Lindon Fankhauser in 1975 . Called the Wills Fankhauser Trophy for best Senior Team man ( pic below right). Lindon Fankhauser also passed away a few months ago he was 99.
Vic’s funeral is on Friday, 1pm at Heritage Funerals next to Wantirna Hill Club
Rest in Peace Vic.
