First Grade
Round 15 saw the Tri-colours take on the Sydney Swans Reserves in what was to be the clash for outright second on the home and away ladder with only 3 rounds remaining after the weekend’s game. With Ainslie coming off two good wins and the Swans coming off two previous losses the game was up for grabs and that second spot beckoning to be won. The boys got off to a flier of a start heading into the first break up by 17 points which was to be the margin at full time in favour of the Tri-colours.
Within 5 minutes of the second term slight showers began to come over the ground and settled in for the rest of the day making it a good old winters day for a game of footy. Nevertheless the boys stuck at it and headed into the main break nearly 4 goals up and looking very competitive and on top against the Swans.
The margin increased and decreased in the next half of footy but the lead before the weather come in was to stay the same and created a nice buffer as the rain got heavier. A four goal to two in favour in the Swans in the third term left the door ajar for a last quarter push to take the points with Ainslie up by 13 points at the break.
A hard slog in steady rain eventuated in the last term with the Swans scoring the first goal to close the gap. However the Ainslie boys replied after a string of points and took home the points to move one game clear into second spot. Captain Billy Neely was great all day booting four goals and really worked tirelessly all day, as well as defenders Ash Harris and David Love who threw their bodies at everything for a great team victory.
