The Bloods are pleased to welcome Darren Haby back to the club for the 2018 season.
In recent times Haby has played his football at Pascoe Vale (EDFL) and Sunshine (WRFL), and was part of Sunshine’s narrow Grand Final loss to Deer Park in 2017.
He is a former Bloods junior who went through the TAC Cup system with the Western Jets and VFL at Werribee, and will be worth 1 point under AFL Victoria’s player points system.
Football Manager Brad Jamison has been impressed with the contribution Haby has made on the training track in recent weeks and is excited to have him back in the Bloods jumper this season. “It’s pleasing that Darren has returned home after a few years elsewhere. His versatility to play forward or back is going to be important to us, and at 28 years of age he’ll be one of our oldest players as well. Whatever position he ends up playing, our team looks stronger with his inclusion”.
Haby's return to the Bloods also continues a focus to bring former Juniors back to the Club and add to an already large group of homegrown talent. "I'm keen to bring Melton people back to Melton. We made small inroads on that last year, and have been able to add a couple more this year. There's still a lot out there who can play a role in getting us back to where we want to be - playing finals footy".
For Haby, he is looking forward to returning home to the familiar surroundings at MacPherson Park. “The chance to play footy alongside the boys I grew up around is exciting”.
