Another beautiful day at Dukes Oval on Saturday with all teams competing against the Quakers Hill Bombers. The day kicked off with the Auskick squad strutting their stuff to an enthusiastic crowd before the Under 10's took to the field. The 10's rebounded well from last weeks loss with a big win over a committed Bombers outfit to assure them a place in the upcoming finals series. They have done a magnificent job in 2008 assuring a big future in coming years for the club.
The Under 11's were one of three teams fighting for a finals berth along with Quakers Hill but came up short to a bigger squad in an entertaining match. The 11's have fielded many players this year that are eligible to play in the same age division in 2009 and should prove an awesome outfit in the years to come.
The Under 12's were out to seek revenge against the Bombers after their defeat at Frances Park back in June and after a lightning start, cruised to an impressive 22 point win.
The 14's sealed a finals spot for 2008 with a win over the seventh placed visitors with the mercy rule coming into effect. Multiple goalscorers, Michael Kerr (6) James Devlin (4) Jeremy Rix (3) and Alex Hocking (2) were fortunate to be at the end of a great team effort in a clinical display of footy.
As the sun set over Dukes Oval, the Under 16's were in cruise control as they romped to a 100+ point victory over the Bombers to virtually assure themselves of second place on the ladder come finals time. Nic Edwards had the rare honour of leading the team onto the field in his 200th game for the club. This incredible feat for a junior footballer was recognised by the club in presenting him with a "200 game cap" and a letter from Swans coach, Paul Roos acknowledging the occasion was read out by coach Sharp prior to the match. Well done, Nic !
Earlier in the day, Penrith Rams Under 18's recorded a win over East Coast Eagles at Grey Gums Oval. The team has now beaten the hapless Eagles at each of their three encounters this season (as well as 2 from two in 2007). The Rams team consists of about a dozen former Lions players as well as 16's player, Matt Payne, who again was one of the stars in the tough encounter.
Next week sees the Lions at various locations with the 10's up against second placed Penrith at Grey Gums, the 11's and 12's against Hills Lions at Doyle Park whilst the 14's and 16's do battle against Holsworthy Tigers at Greenway Park, Carnes Hill
