The Alexandra Football Netball Club and the general community in the Alexandra district were saddened to learn of the passing of Mr J.W. Max Porter O.A.M. recently. Max, a Policeman came to Alexandra in the early sixties as the Senior Constable in charge of the Alexandra Police station. Max played 26 games with the Alexandra Football Club mostly as a strong, tough defender in the Reserves team in 1963 and ‘64. Max was President of the club in ‘64 and ‘65 and was influential in recruiting a current VFL player, Essendon forward Terry Rodgers to the club as coach in ’65. Max provided great leadership to the mostly young Alexandra team guiding many on and off the field. Max also was the prime instigator in setting up the Youth Club in Alexandra and gave many hours of his time to the community for which he was awarded with an OAM. Max renewed acquaintances with many at the Cricket Association reunion held a little over year ago. The AFNC extends our condolences to the family.
